This module looks at how retail is now and how it has changed through the integration of technology, different shopping mediums and stakeholder and customer expectations.  It will also look at where Retail is going. It examines the role of the Supervisor in the Retail business world as it is today along with the qualities, skills and competencies required to be effective and how they can compete and be effective. It examines personal development and why it is important and what areas learners need to develop.

Team Leadership

This module looks at the key elements of effective supervision of people. It will cover the building blocks of The supervisor and team leader as a role model; the difference between management & leadership; Leadership styles & approaches; motivation; delegation; effective team work & leading a team effectively and taking accountability and making people accountable.

Professional Work Place Relationships

This module looks at the importance of building effective & professional working relationships & how this ties to success in the role of a supervisor & team leader. The key areas covered will be interpersonal skills, managing conflict and managing from the middle.

Team & Business Communications

This module examines the important issues involved with communication and how vital effective communication is when leading/ supervising a team. It covers the basic principles of effective communication; methods that can be used to communicate with the team; the barriers that occur when communicating with a team and how to overcome them as well as how to effectively organize and lead a team meeting.

Resources Management

This module covers two key elements for being a successful supervisor. As time is a key resource for anyone it will first it looks at the basic principles of planning, organizing and time management. Secondly it moves to look at other resources a supervisor will need to manage and plan to use effectively. Key areas covered will include daily planning; SMART objectives; prioritizing and basic time management principles; types of resources and the responsibilities of a supervisor in dealing with those resources. Finally it will cover the principles of resource planning & control. A pre-module time log/ questionnaire will need to be completed prior to attending.

Decision making & Problem Solving

This module will cover the basic elements of problem solving and decision making – skills that a supervisor will need to use every day in all aspects of their work. It will specifically look at the typical problems people face every day at work and the categories the problems fall into (e.g. people problems or systems problems); practical ways to work through problems to find the right solution; How to prevent the problem happening again and a systematic approach to decision making to help them in any scenario as a supervisor.

Recruitment & Training

As a retail supervisor it is important to understand that attracting and retaining the right people for your business is essential both in terms of the success of your business and cost effectiveness. This basic introductory module covers the skills and practices needed to recruit people effectively as well as the issues of effective on boarding & orientation. In addition it also examines how to train team members to ensure they can do their jobs effectively. It looks at the benefits of training to an organization & a Supervisor & the key skills & techniques needed to train appropriately.

Quality & Customer Focus

As a retail supervisor – the provision of quality customer service is critical to the role. This will often be done through supervising others. This short module looks at what customer focus is all about; why customers don’t return to retailers or choose other methods to obtain their goods; the importance of being customer facing; the quality performance measures to be looked at in order to provide quality service; transactional responses to customer issues rather than emotional ones and understanding the competitive advantages and liabilities of an ‘in person’ retail experience.

Health & Safety

Health & safety is critical to any business but particularly in Retail where there are so many risks to employees and customers alike. This module covers the basics of Health & Safety at work and WHIMIS.

Job Coaching and professional Development

Learners will learn how to change their resumes, cover letters and other employment tools which are necessary to gain for the dream position post graduation.

Practicum

Learners will spend 120 hours in a work placement covering all practical aspects of retailing.

– Pass the admissions Interview
– Can move independently and carry weights up to 20 Lb

B-Mature Admission (If there no high school diploma or higher degree)
Students must meet the following criteria:
– Must be 18 years or older.
– Pass Wonderlic Test with score at least 13
– Provide clear criminal background
– Has knowledge of computers and Microsoft office software skills
– Pass the admissions Interview
– Can move independently and carry weights up to 20 Lb
